Has your doctor told you...
That
you’re just lazy, crazy or depressed?
Contrary to what some doctors may have told you,
you’re not crazy, lazy, or suffering from a Prozac
deficiency.
What’s even worse, many think those with these illnesses are crazy, lazy, or depressed. I know how frustrating it is to continue to look for answers from doctors who don’t understand what you’re going through. These are the same doctors who tell you to get more sleep (right!), take it easy, get more rest, exercise, and eat better. Or, they send you off to a psychiatrist for more antidepressant medications. This clearly shows that most doctors just don’t get it.
I’ve found that most Fibromyalgia and CFS patients know more about the illness than their doctors!
I travel around the country lecturing to doctors and have often had doctors ask me, “Dr. Murphree, why do you want to work with these patients, they’re so sick?” Well, I think THAT'S the point, don’t you? Yes FMS and CFS patients are very sick. This is why they need help! I’ve spent the last 10 years researching, writing books, lecturing and consulting, on fibromyalgia and CFS. Believe me, I didn’t set out to work with these "medical misfits," but those with fibromyalgia and CFS found me. Now it has become my mission, my calling, to help those with these illnesses, to help them get their lives back.
The reason I write books, teach seminars, and yes, develop nutritional therapies for fibromyalgia and CFS is because no one else will. No one else seems to care. I’m sorry to say this, but it’s true. Traditional medicine as a whole certainly doesn’t. All you have to do is hear what most doctors have to say about their fibromyalgia and CFS patients to know that they just don’t care. “Not Mrs. Jones, again. Tell her I’m referring her to a ______ (fill in the blank) specialist.” One more doctor dismisses you and passes you on to another specialist. Even Dr. Andrew Weil, author of “Spontaneous Healing” and other best selling books, seems to have written off those with fibromyalgia. Recently, while appearing on The Larry King television show, when a caller asked him about fibromyalgia, he replied that his clinic isn’t even taking fibromyalgia patients anymore. They don’t know how to help them so I guess they don’t want to see them.
When I first began treating fibromyalgia, I traveled around the country looking for doctors who were having ANY success with fibromyalgia. My exhaustive search revealed ONLY a handful of clinics who were able to help their fibro patients. These successful doctors were all using an integrative medical approach and were the only doctors who consistently helped their fibromyalgia patients.
An integrative medical approach, which combines the judicious use of prescription drugs and clinically proven nutritional supplements, consistently yielded improvement in those with fibromyalgia and CFS.
Despite the latest overly-hyped "drug of the month" for fibromyalgia, prescription drugs and traditional medicine have largely failed those with fibromyalgia. Traditional medicine is practiced by using a “cookbook mentality.” If a person presents to their doctor with certain symptoms, then they have a certain disease, which has certain pills to treat it. Fibromyalgia is so far outside the traditional medical cookbook that there is no recipe for it.
Most doctors don’t know what to do with fibromyalgia. So they attempt to cover up the symptoms with an assortment of drugs.
Prescription medications can be helpful. But prescription medicines also have potential side-effects. And let's face it, those with fibromyalgia are medical misfits, they don’t usually respond to medications like other folks. They have multiple symptoms including chronic pain, poor sleep, IBS, headaches, fatigue, anxiety, and depression, etc. They’re very complicated.
Long-term prescription medication therapy often creates more symptoms, which then leads to more drugs and more side effects.
A case in point is Ambien, which does produce sleep, but may also cause flu-like symptoms including achy muscle pain and fatigue, as well as short-term memory loss and depression. Doesn’t this sound like the very symptoms associated with fibromyalgia? Or how about Klonopin which doesn’t produce deep restorative sleep (yes it knocks you out), but instead depletes the happy hormone, serotonin, and leads to fatigue, depression and addiction, usually within two weeks of starting the medication.
You’ve probably wondered why people get fibromyalgia in the first place. Well, I believe that people are born with a stress-coping savings account. Some have large stress-coping savings accounts and some have a tiny savings account. These accounts are stocked with important stress-coping chemicals like serotonin, dopamine, cortisol, DHEA, and thousands of other vitamins, minerals, hormones, and other bio-chemicals that make the body properly. Everyday, we make withdrawals from our stress-coping account. The more stress we are under the more withdrawals we make. If we aren’t careful we can make more withdrawals than deposits. Those with fibromyalgia and CFS have bankrupted their savings accounts. This can be caused by an accident, illness, surgery, loss of a loved one, a painful divorce, or just long term stress. Once this happens there is no prescription drug, physical therapy, massage, chiropractic adjustment, or latest fad multi-level marketing cure that can correct the underlying cause of this illness. An integrative medical approach that replaces the bankrupt stress coping chemicals is the only chance a person has of getting their life back.
I’ve found that most FMS and CFS patient’s fall into one of two personality categories;
Type A’s
Type A’s are doers. They have a demanding schedule filled with activities; a full-time job, household duties, family responsibilities, soccer practices, PTA meetings, volunteer work, church duties, and more. They push themselves harder and harder trying to do more, be more, and have more. They don’t want to settle for second best. These perfectionists can’t stand to be idle. They must be busy doing something, anything. They’ll be talking on the phone counseling a co-worker on job performance, while cooking dinner, emptying the dishwasher, feeding the baby, and looking over today’s mail. These individuals are used to pushing themselves to do more and more, day after day. If they’re asked to volunteer for a fund-raiser at their child’s school, they’ll accept. If the boss calls and asks them to head an additional committee they’ll gladly accept once again. They can’t say no. The years of constant stress finally catch up to them and they literally burn themselves out.
Julie
"I had always been a very active person. I played tennis and golf and was a cheerleader in college. After graduating from college in 3 years, I got married and started my career in advertising. I became pregnant the first year of our marriage followed by another child two years later. Over the next 10 years I worked my way up to a senior vice president position. I did this while raising a family and maintaining an active social life. I remember coming down with the flu from hell and not being able to shake it. I was prescribed antibiotics and bed rest. I stayed home and took 3 sick days, something I rarely ever do, but I was just exhausted and every muscle in my body hurt. I some how managed to go back to work. I still felt terrible and would have to go right to bed when I got home after work. I went back to my family doctor and he did dozens of tests over a period of two months, nothing showed up on my lab work. No matter what I tried; drugs, vitamins, exercise, rest, nothing helped. I just couldn’t shake it.
My family doctor said he thought I was exhausted and just needed a vacation. This sounded like a good idea so I took some time off, went to the beach and lay on the beach for a week. I was getting worse and started to miss a good deal of work. My social life had come to a halt and my marriage was being strained from the stress of almost a year of poor health. I mean I couldn't even take the trash out to the curb without becoming totally exhausted. I couldn't sleep no matter what medicines were prescribed, muscle relaxants, tranquilizers, antidepressants, etc. My family doctor hated to see me and seemed to resent that I was not any better. Finally after sending me to various specialist’s he referred me to a rheumatologist. The rheumatologist ordered dozens of tests, all of which came back "normal." He then told me I had Fibromyalgia. I had never heard of it. He explained what it was. He said they weren't sure what caused it and that there was very little that could be done for it.
Most of what he recommended I'd either tried or was already on. The doctor prescribed Celebrex, hydrocodone, Neurontin, Zanaflex, and physical therapy. At first I seemed to be a little better. After a couple of weeks I started getting terrible stomach pains. The doctor said it was probably due to the Celebrex and I stopped taking it. Then I started having more and more trouble just waking up in the morning. I said no more Zanaflex for me. I couldn’t sleep and was prescribed Ambien. This helped and I didn’t feel so hung over in the morning. My pain continued to be as bad if not worse and I was given trigger point injections. These didn’t help and made me have even more pain. After a couple of months the Ambien stopped working and I couldn’t get to sleep once again. I stopped going to the physical therapist, which also seemed to make me worse.
I lost all hope of ever getting well. I saw massage therapists, chiropractors, and an acupuncturist but the relief was short term and I couldn’t afford going every week. One day I was watching the news when they started talking about a local clinic that specialized in Fibromyalgia. I went to a talk and realized everything Dr. Murphree said was true. I read Dr. Murphree’s book over and over. I now have hope. I began the program in October and by January I was back at work. I still don’t have the stamina I once did, but I don’t pass out from exhaustion and pain at the end of the day. I know I’ll always need to monitor my stress, eat right, and take the formulas Dr. Murphree recommended. If I try to do too much I’ll be reminded that I have Fibromyalgia. Otherwise I feel good most all the time.”
Type B’s
Type B’s are “the care givers.” They may or may not be as busy as Type A’s, but are just as taxed. They spend considerable time and energy taking care of friends and loved ones. These nurturers take care of their spouses, children, extended family, and friends. They’re lives revolve around the ups and downs and daily health challenges of those they look after. They may have sick or disabled family member living in their home or they are continuously running back and forth between the hospital and nursing home. And since they don’t have enough time in the day to take care of the needy and themselves, they often struggle late into the night to get everything done. They at first like to be needed and will take on more and more of the responsibilities of caring for others. Like Type A’s they can’t or won’t say no when asked to help do more. They take satisfaction in helping others. They feel a sense of duty that makes them continue to give more and more...” They’ve spent years giving and giving, while getting little in return. They expend so much energy helping others that they leave no time for themselves. The constant emotional strain takes its toll on their marriage. They can’t go out to dinner, parties (too tired), or vacation, “who’ll look after mom while we’re gone?” Finally, and it’s inevitable, these individuals finally “give out.”
I’ve Been Specializing in Treating Fibromyalgia and CFS for the Last 10 Years
I’ve tried all types of various natural and prescription therapies over the last ten years. I started, and wrote, all the protocols for a large integrative medical practice that was located on the campus of a prominent hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. This clinic was staffed with medical, chiropractic, and acupuncture doctors. We used a combination of prescription and natural medications. After working with patients from all over the country, and with all sorts of conditions associated with Fibromyalgia and CFS, we came to realize that prescription medication offered little long-term relief for our patients. The more medications a person was on, the more potential side-effects we had to deal with. But we weren’t alone in being humbled by these illnesses. Even the American College of Rheumatology discourages the use of most of the drugs that are being used to treat Fibromyalgia and CFS.
Traditional Medical Drug Therapy Doesn’t Provide Long-Term Benefits.
The American College of Rheumatology has discovered that traditional medications don’t provide long-term relief of symptoms and have posted a message on their web site that discourages the use of the very medications used to treat Fibromyalgia; non-steroidal anti-inflammatory meds ( Celebrex, Mobic, etc.) muscle relaxers (Soma, Zanaflex, Flexeril, etc.), pain medications, and anti-anxiety medications (Klonopin, Ativan, Xanax, etc.) since they are ineffective, have potential side effects, and may be habit forming.
They go on to say that the most widely used drugs to treat fibromyalgia including Elavil (a tricyclic antidepressant) and tranquilizers like Klonopin are no better than a sugar pill after 3 months. Basically, they said that nothing works and have thrown in the towel.
Getting Healthy from the Inside Out
The only way to beat this illness (and I believe you CAN beat it) is to get healthy from the inside out. A person becomes sick when their self-healing mechanisms shut down. There is no prescription drug in the world that can correct this dysfunction. Nor is there any one therapy alone that can correct the self-healing autonomic glands: hypothalamus, pituitary, and adrenals. To feel better you MUST correct the underlying dysfunctional bio-chemistry - one system at a time. It is work, but it works! Please don’t give up; You can feel better! I know because I see miracles happen everyday in my practice.
I’ve been criticized by some for saying that you can beat Fibromyalgia and CFS. But I will continue to say it, because it’s true. You can get well! It's not an overnight process. It may take months, and sometimes years, to get well. Using the protocols I recommend in my practice, and in my books, it usually only takes a couple of weeks before you start feeling better. Better than you’ve felt in years. You won’t be cured in a couple of weeks, but you’ll start to get your life back, have more energy, less pain, sleep better, be happier, and feel better. You can get well, but you’ll always have Fibromyalgia or CFS waiting to return if you let yourself get run down once again. Read some of the testimonials from people just like you who've benefited from my book, protocols, and the products I recommend.
You CAN feel better
I want to help you feel good again. You CAN feel better. I see it happen time and time again. You CAN get your life back. There is no "magic bullet" for CFS or FMS. There is NO magic drug, massage, chiropractic adjustment, surgery, physical therapy, water aerobics, or shrink, that can make you well again overnight. You must do it by getting healthy FROM THE INSIDE OUT. I've developed my protocols through first-hand experience and "working in the trenches" for years with patients just like you. I know you’ve tried dozens of the latest fad nutrients, drug or other overly hyped remedy, only to see little, if any, improvement.
My program works because unlike fly-by-night so called “experts,” I’ve been doing this over 10 years and continue to actually see patients day in and day out (I’m not some ivory tower academic). I’ve learned first hand from my patients (thousands over the last 10 years) what works and what doesn’t. My exhaustive research and clinic experience shows that the right nutritional therapies can make huge life-enhancing changes in how a person feels. In the beginning I used IV nutritional therapy (years before all the media hoopla about IV nutritional therapy for fibromyalgia) to get the high doses of vitamins and minerals needed (as demonstrated in studies and clinic experience) to make the rapid breakthrough health changes that I now get with oral supplementation. Back then I’d simply explain the research studies and ask patients to visit their local health food store or pharmacy for the recommended supplements. Unfortunately, my patients would routinely wind up buying too many products, bottles and bottles of stuff, worthless fad products, or inferior products loaded with fillers, artificial ingredients, based on the recommended daily allowance or RDA (RECOMMENDED DISEASE ALLOWANCE). After witnessing patients fall prey to inferior fad multi-level products and outdated RDA ingredients, I knew I had to research vendors to find the purest, high dose pharmaceutical supplements I could find.
This search took almost 5 years before I became enthusiastic about recommending a certain supplement manufacturer. Essential therapeutics exceeds all my expectations and delivers the goods. My patients consistently show, sometimes dramatic, improvements in how they feel. I know that many of you are sensitive to things that "normal" people aren't sensitive to, such as fillers and other items that are added to many nutritional formulas. I have gone to great length to put together a line of supplements and therapeutic formulas that are very pure and are of pharmaceutical grade quality. They were especially designed for people with fibromyalgia and CFS. They’re some 500 times stronger than a one–a-day multivitamin (based on the RDA). My formulas are based on the optimal daily allowance or ODA, NOT on the Recommended Disease Allowance, which is outdated and only designed to keep you from getting scurvy instead of yielding the biochemical breakthroughs that you need in order to notice a difference in your sleep, pain, moods, and energy.
BUT PLEASE DON’T BUY MY BOOKS OR FORMULAS IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A QUICK FIX.
My proven protocols are based on correcting the cause(s), not simply covering up symptoms. This life-restoring approach takes time. It may take months to get well, for some, years. However, the majority of my patients notice a dramatic improvement within 2-4 weeks.
For those of you who want to follow my step-by-step protocols right away, please take advantage of the following special offer.
